Hope Mohr Dance Community Engagement Residency

September 2020 - March 2022

The Community Engagement Residency cultivates lateral lines that sustain creative communities. CER provides an opportunity for select artists, especially those historically marginalized, to engage in a year-long project with their communities. Core values of the residency include equity, dialogue, process, artist autonomy, the intersection of art-making and activism, and building relationships among artists.

During the Primers Community Engagement Residency, The Primers team produced two public facing events for performance artists including the publishing of a Zine in December 2020 and an online presentation of video, performance, and dialogue by Bay Area based Indigenous artists in collaboration with Crowded Fire Theater in March 2021. We continued to meet weekly as a trio to remain in community, critically examine our curatorial praxis and relationship to power structures within the Bay Area performance community, hone our mission statement, and to build this website with FAILSPACE!
